PLANNING FOR YOUR PORTRAIT

While specific recommendations will be made during
your pre-consultation, here's a few guidelines to help
you look your best the day of your session:

Each portrait session is different, and yet there are
some things that all great portraits have in common.
Simplicity. Never shoud clothing compete for the
attention of your face.

Solid colors are best. Darker clothing minimizes body
size and light tones tend to emphasize body size.
Necklines are important. A "vee" or scoop neck is best
if your neck is short and your face is full. A turtleneck
or high-necked garment is more flattering if your neck
is longer and your face is slender.

White or light pastel clothing looks best in portraits
taken against a white or light background. Blues,
white, ivory, khaki and salmon are nice outdoors
against green foliage. Burgundy, brown, tan and gray
are nice late in the season. Avoid greens for outdoor
portraits because they tend to blend in with the
background.

Elbow length or long sleeve dresses and shirts are
recommended, however, short sleeves are fine for
infants and small children

Haircuts or style changes should be done several days
before the portrait. Have make-up and hair grooming
materials handy for touch up. Men: Shave right before
your scheduled session.

Avoid glasses, especially tinted glasses, whenever
possible. If you regularly wear glasses, the best
solution is a pair of frames without the lenses..

For family portraits, coordinate your attire from head
to toe selecting appropriate shoes and stockings for
full-length poses Dress everyone in the same style of
clothing. Do not mix casual and formal attire. Keep
the tonal range of clothing within the group the
same. Do not mix light and dark values.

For children, be sure to time a meal so that you're
not tempted to offer food during the portrait session.
It's a good idea to have a few small, favorite toys
handy. It's also best not to coax or coach your child
for expressions.

And finally, get a good night's sleep and take the
time to relax before your session. No amount of
re-touching is a good substitute for being 'fresh'.
